Rhenz Abando, touted as the next big college sensation after just one season with Santo Tomas University at UAAP, has taken his act to rival NCAA and will become the latest grumpy ex-Tiger to dress for the Letran Knights.
The athletic forward is set to join the Knights, while the Growling Tigers remain under severe scrutiny for holding a training camp in head coach Aldin Ayo’s hometown, Sorsogon, despite government health protocols for sports during this quarantine season.
“He would not have left if he had not [the mess] it happened, ”said a person familiar with the situation.
Abando joins a proven Knights team that won the last NCAA championship, after Brent Paraíso and Ira Bataller, former Tigres who already signed up for Letran last Friday, according to another Inquirer source.
He is ready to complete his transfer on Tuesday before returning to his hometown of La Unión province.
Abando was the target of a poaching attempt by a rival UAAP school last season. INQ
