Netflix announced the return of its animated series Castlevania for a fourth season in March and now creator and writer Warren Ellis has more.
Posting on her official site, Ellis described a call to Netflix where the success of Castlevania season 3 was discussed.
“I really can’t tell you all the exact numbers,” Ellis wrote. “What I can say is that the popularity of season 3 was an order of magnitude compared to that of season 2, and season 2 was popular enough to get us season 3. It turns out that season 3 was really amazing “
That’s good news for season 4 of the series, and may even secure a season 5 in the future. Almost as impressive is that Ellis does not anticipate a release date delay for next season due to the ongoing crash of the coronavirus pandemic.
Ellis expressed her hope that the success of the series can have a healthy effect on animation in general.
“If it turns out that this weird thing is what was meant to open the door to adult-oriented drama narration in English animation, I’d be delighted,” Ellis wrote. “Because we just showed that the audience is there, in the same numbers that appear in the live-action drama.”
