MANILA, Philippines – Assistance worth 22.9 billion pesos for NCR Plus residents will be delivered to local government units (LGU) starting Monday, according to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
The undersecretary of the Interior, Bernardo Florece, in charge of the DILG, responded affirmatively when asked to confirm this information.
“Yes, starting tomorrow, the BTr (Treasury Office) will deliver it directly to the LGUs concerned,” he told INQUIRER.net in a text message.
Home Secretary and spokesman Jonathan Malaya also confirmed this in a separate text message.
“Yes. According to the DBM (Department of Budget and Management) advice,” Malaya said.
The DILG previously directed the LGUs to issue an Executive Order (EO) detailing how the aid will be distributed to their constituents.
The department said that LGUs must deliver the aid “15 calendar days after receiving the funds if the aid is in cash or within 30 calendar days if the aid is in kind.”
Some 22.9 million beneficiaries of NCR Plus, which covers Metro Manila, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite and Laguna, are expected to receive at least P1,000 of assistance each, either in cash or in kind. However, no family should receive more than P4,000.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development previously assured that LGUs affected by the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) will obtain a list of aid recipients.
The ECQ on NCR Plus started on March 22 and was supposed to end on April 4, but was then extended for another week or until April 11.
