FILIPINO tennis player Alex Eala fueled her rise in the sport after earning her first professional title.

Eala, 15, won the Rafael Nadal Academy Tennis World Tour title on Sunday night (Manila time), after a set down to beat hometown bet Yvonne Cavalle-Reimers in the finals, 5 -7, 6-1 and 6- 2, in Manacor, Spain.

The victory was a continuation of her strong recent streak that saw her win the Australian junior doubles title in January last year and then reach the semi-finals of the French Open junior tournament in late 2020.

And like any “scoop”, Ms. Eala finds her latest achievement highly memorable and something she looks to build on moving forward.

“This is another memorable one! My first professional win! Many thanks to my family and my extended families, RNA and Globe! I really appreciate all your messages of support too! ”Ms Eala said in a Facebook post, referring to the Rafa Nadal Academy, where she is an academic, and Globe Telecom, where she is a brand ambassador.

Ms. Eala dug deep to beat 28-year-old Ms. Cavalle-Reimers, who pulled the rug out from under the Filipino in the opening frame, reviewing a 4-5 deficit, to grab a cushion early in the game.

In the next two sets, Eala would not give up momentum as she got her rhythm on the road to groundbreaking victory.

After his first professional victory at the International Tennis Federation (ITF), tennis superstar Rafael Nadal congratulated his scholar on Instagram.

“Congratulations @ alex.eala on this important moment in your career. We are all very happy for you! Keep up the good work and attitude. Let’s go, ”wrote the winner of 20 Grand Slam singles.

Globe also congratulated its brand ambassador and reiterated its support.

We are very proud of Alex and look forward to seeing her again at her future games, ”said Ernest L. Cu, Globe president and CEO, in a statement.

He was in the countryside during the holidays before returning to Spain.
