MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte’s cabinet approved expanding the age group that can leave their homes during community quarantine, Malacañang said Tuesday.
Under the current policy of the government’s COVID-19 task force, people under the age of 21 to over 60 must stay home with the exception of work and access needs.
“What was approved was the gradual yung expansion of the age group that was allowed out,” said presidential spokesman Harry Roque in an online briefing.
But Roque said that it is the Inter-institutional Working Group (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases that will decide on the age adjustment allowed to leave.
“Age will definitely change, but let me see, I think we will give the IATF some leeway to really set how old he is,” Roque said.

“I think the age of the young people will be lower and the age of the elderly will be higher. I think I’m pretty sure 65 will be the age for seniors, but I’m not sure what age it will be [set for] young people, “he added.

Roque said the Cabinet also approved shortening curfew hours and allowing multiple work shifts to allow more workers to return to their jobs.
It did not specify the setting for curfew hours.
But Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, co-chair of the IATF, said it was possible to delay the curfew in Metro Manila until midnight until 5 a.m.
