MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte will lose “a lot of credibility” if the term agreement shared at the conference between President Alan Peter Cayetano and Marinduque representative Lord Allan Velasco, which the president himself negotiated, is not fulfilled, representative of Buhay . Lito Atienza said Tuesday.
“(I think) a lot of credibility will be lost. (If the president speaks the same tune) next time, people will raise their eyebrows. For real? Will you keep it? “he told reporters in an interview when asked what the effects would be if the shared term agreement is not carried out.
In 2019, Duterte negotiated an agreement in which Cayetano would serve as spokesperson in the first 15 months of the XVIII Congress, while Velasco will manage to serve for the remaining 21 months.
Cayetano’s term is expected to end next month, according to the agreement.
Cayetano and Velasco are scheduled to meet with the president on Tuesday, as the speaker issue continues to heat up in the House of Representatives.
Atienza said he hopes the president will tell both parties to honor their commitment.
“Knowing the president and his word of honor, I hope that he now says to both parties: ‘You honor your commitment. Anyone who breaks their engagement, don’t you dare show your face to me. ‘ This is where we have a window through the character of the president, ”he said. [ac]
