PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte again urged Congress to pass a bill that creates a department for Filipino workers abroad (OFW).
“I would like to rush Congress on this. One of my proposals during the campaign period was the creation of [a department] [for] Filipino abroad “.
“So I propose in the next few months and hope to create a department for OFW,” Duterte said Tuesday.
In the same speech, the president said that he was considering creating another agency for seafarers.
“I will also create another agency and that is the maritime … seafarers.”
“Because I said [sa kanila] I have a different treatment there Due to so many international laws involved I say (I will also create another agency for seafarers. Because I told you, my treatment of your case is different due to the many international laws involved).
The House of Representatives approved the third and final reading of the bill known as the Philippine Overseas Department Act last March. The Senate has yet to pass its version of the bill that seeks the creation of a department for OFW.
