President Rodrigo Duterte looks forward to the “peaceful” observance of All Saints ‘Day and All Souls’ Day, which will be somewhat different this year, as Filipinos will not be able to visit their deceased in cemeteries on November 1 and 2.

In his public address broadcast on state-run PTV-4 on Tuesday, Duterte urged the public to keep the observance of All Saints Day solemn.

“No liquor, no deadly instruments lalo na ang baril (especially weapons), unless you are a military man or a policeman. I look forward to a peaceful celebration of All Saints ‘Day and All Souls’ Day, ”Duterte said.

“I would just say have a safe All Saints Day celebration and follow the rules. It’s for your own good, ”he added.

The government had ordered the closure of all cemeteries, memorial parks and columbariums across the country from October 29 to November 4 to prevent the transmission of the coronavirus disease.

In his previous press conference, Roque urged the public to visit their deceased loved ones before or after the cemeteries closed for a week.

The Philippine Conference of Catholic Bishops encouraged the faithful to offer prayers for the dead.

All Saints’ Day, observed on November 1, is a public holiday.
