MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte may speak with House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano and Marinduque Representative Lord Allan Velasco amid the speaker problem plaguing the lower house, Malacañang said. Monday.
Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said that while he is not sure if a schedule has already been set, the president mentioned speaking with Cayetano and Velasco at an earlier meeting.
“I can’t say for sure because on the schedule I have, only private meetings are written… What I can say is in the last speech to the people in Davao, the President said that maybe he will speak with Speaker Cayetano and Congressman Lord Allan Velasco, ”Roque said in an online briefing.

Duterte is hopeful that Cayetano and Velasco will follow through on their shared term agreement, but said there is nothing he can do if the latter does not have the support of congressmen, Roque previously said.
Duterte previously supported a shared term between Cayetano and Velasco for the presidency of the House.
Cayetano will serve as spokesperson for the first 15 months or until October of this year, while Velasco will serve as spokesperson for the remaining months.
Several leaders of the Chamber have already expressed their support for Cayetano’s permanence as speaker.
Meanwhile, Velasco called for maintaining the agreement negotiated by the president, saying it is based on “mutual trust.”
