PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte approved the plan of the Department of Education (DepEd) to conduct pilot face-to-face classes in selected schools in “low-risk” areas in the country throughout the month of January 2021.
“El Palacio informs that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and the Cabinet approved during the Cabinet meeting tonight, December 14, 2020, the realization of the pilot implementation or test of face-to-face classes in selected schools within areas with low risk of Covid for the entire month of January 2021 as proposed by the Department of Education (DepEd), “said presidential spokesman Harry Roque in a statement Monday.
He said the approval was made during Duterte’s meeting with cabinet members on Monday.
Roque said that DepEd will coordinate with the Covid-19 National Working Group (NTF) to monitor the completion of the pilot implementation.
“The pilot test will be carried out under strict health and safety measures, and where there is a commitment of shared responsibility between the DepEd, local government units and parents,” he added.
He also clarified that face-to-face classes in schools where it is allowed will not be mandatory, but voluntary on the part of the students or parents.
With this, a parent’s permission must be given to the teacher before the student can participate in face-to-face classes, Roque added.
