Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 5) – Ninety-one percent of Filipinos surveyed were satisfied with the performance of President Rodrigo Duterte eight months after the COVID-19 pandemic that has affected the lives and livelihoods of millions of Filipinos, an independent pollster found.
Pulse Asia reported on Monday the results of its national survey conducted Sept. 14-20 of 1,200 adults across the country.
The president’s approval rating increased by 4 percentage points compared to the rating he received in December 2019, a month before the country recorded its first COVID-19 infection. Only 5 percent disapproved of his performance, while 5 percent were undecided. Its trust rating also increased by 8 percentage points to 91 percent.
Vice President Leni Robredo received an approval rating of 57 percent, one percentage point lower compared to the rating she received in the Pulse Asia survey conducted in late 2019. Her confidence rating fell 3 percentage points to 50 percent in September despite numerous COVID-19 initiatives.
Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III earned an 84 percent approval rating, similar to the score he received in December 2019.
House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, who is at the center of a leadership dispute, suffered a double-digit drop in his approval rating and confidence. His approval rating fell 10 percentage points over the nine-month span to 70 percent. His confidence index fell from 76 to 67 percent.
Meanwhile, Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta, who was appointed Chief Justice in October 2019, only received a 44 percent approval rating and a 39 percent confidence rating, as only 68 percent of those surveyed knew him and his position in the judiciary.
