The former president and president of the House of Representatives Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will soon return to public service this time as a presidential adviser (AP).
On Thursday, Malacañang confirmed that President Rodrigo R. Duterte appointed Arroyo as the new presidential advisor on Clark’s flagship programs and projects with a compensation rate of just P1 per year.
Arroyo will be in charge of executing programs and projects at Clark, presidential spokesman Harry Roque said in a statement.
He noted that Arroyo’s “wisdom and vast experience as a former head of state and head of government, along with her great concern in her native Pampanga” will be crucial in making Clark the “next major metropolis in Asia.”
In a statement, Arroyo praised Duterte for giving him the opportunity to return to public service with such an important appointment.
He noted that Clark’s rapid development will be crucial to the success of the country’s recovery from the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.
“In this time of a pandemic and the worst global recession in nearly a century, the rapid leveraging of the Clark-Subic service logistics corridor for jobs, investment and inclusive development is indispensable for national recovery,” Arroyo said.
“Let us join hands with government and business drivers to make Clark Asia’s economic powerhouse in the 2020s,” he added.
