MALACANANG lashed out at critics of President Rodrigo Duterte, telling everyone to “die” as the administration will leave another mark in Philippine history with the country’s first metro.

Roque made the statement upon witnessing the arrival of the Chief Cutter of “Kaunlaran”, the first of the six TBMs destined to be used in the partially operational section of the country’s first underground railway system.

“As you know, the president has a lot of criticism and they will not stop until they regain power,” Roque said in his speech on Friday.

“Let today’s event go down in the annals of Philippine history as another first for the Duterte administration. And to his critics, I have only this to say: Manigas kayong lahat (Drop dead) ”, he added.

Amidst the accumulated criticism against the president, particularly over the government’s handling of the coronavirus disease crisis 2019 (Covid-19), Roque said, the “rebirth of Philippine infrastructure” in his turn continues with the arrival of the TBM.

“The arrival of this team is important because it contributes more to what I have described as the rebirth of the Philippine infrastructure,” said the Palace official.

“Presidents will come and go, but in the annals of history, President Duterte will be remembered for the rebirth of infrastructure, for beating Covid-19 and, of course, for all the social legislation that he so much led, including Universal. Health Care and Free Enrollment in state colleges and universities ”, he added.

The Department of Transportation (DoTr) unveiled on Friday the cutting head of the first tunnel boring machine that will be used for the partial operation section of the Metro Manila Project.

It was in March 2018 when the government signed a loan agreement of 51,000 million pesos with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to promote the project.

A total of 25 TBMs will be used for the Metro Manila Project (MMSP). These machines will be used to dig underground and trace the tunnels. They can dig through a variety of soil conditions, from hard rock to sand.

The MMSP is the first underground railway system in the country that will provide the most modern mass transportation in the National Capital Region, from the city of Valenzuela to FTI, Parañaque and Terminal 3 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay, and will extend through the north and the north. Southern areas of the Great Capital Region.

The metro project is one of the centerpieces of the Duterte administration’s “Build, Build, Build” infrastructure program. The Japanese government is providing foreign development assistance for the company.

The first metro in the country is expected to be partially operational by 2022 and fully operational by 2026.
