CEBU CITY, Philippines – “Do not isolate asymptomatic patients from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) from Sitio Zapatera, Barangay Luz at Barrio Luz National High School.”
This is the appeal of Dr. Daisy Villa, head of the Cebu City Health Office, to Mayor Edgardo Labella.
“The school is not ready, we are risking spreading the infection outside of the already infected site,” Villa said.
The doctor said that isolation of infected cases at Sitio Zapatera would no longer be necessary because the entire site had been considered infected.

With this, only those symptomatic must be taken to a medical center for treatment, while the rest of the site will be under strict quarantine.
The massive swab test was also stopped for Sitio Zapatera since the number of cases already represents a generalized infection in the area. She said 52 of the 53 patients are asymptomatic.

“Dili na lang nato na sila was full. Quarantine na lang gyod sa tibuok site, bantayan nga dili na sila manggawas. (Let’s not remove them. The site must be quarantined so that no one can leave), ”Villa said.

If patients are transferred to school, schools may not be ready to house them, and the virus could simply spread nearby.
Staying on site, unless patients show symptoms, would be most practical. Only 9-month-old twin babies will be taken to the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) for isolation, as they are vulnerable to the disease.
However, this is not the same case for the positive asymptomatic case in Barangays Guadalupe and Labangon, as Villa said they were individuals and their sites that had not been as infected as the Zapatera Site.
The two individuals must be isolated from the community as they are the only ones infected in their areas as of now.
Currently, the two individuals are being isolated from their immediate community with one of them at Cebu City Medical Center.
For the massive tests, Villa said they would try to obtain samples at Sitio Cabantan in Barrio Luz, which was the closest neighboring site to Sitio Zapatera to verify if the virus had reached the area. / dbs
