The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has directed transportation stakeholders to implement a separate seat rule on all public service vehicles to increase industry capacity even as the country continues to battle its fight against the Covid pandemic. -19.

Transportation Secretary Arthur P. Tugade said this is part of his group’s contribution to help reopen the economy and is included in the agency’s plan of operations to add routes and utility vehicles, increase speed and capacity and reduce travel time (Oplan Air), serving as the standard for industry initiatives for economic recovery.
It ordered the “immediate adoption of the separate seat rule to increase current capacity in public service vehicles and gradually increase capacity, or allow seating together, provided that plastic barriers are placed between passengers or ultraviolet lights are used. . “
Tugade also ordered the Land Transportation Franchise and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to open more routes and authorize more vehicles.
He also noted that his group will fully support the return of motorcycle taxis, however a congressional resolution must be passed before his group can implement this initiative.
“DOTr recognizes the role of motorcycle taxis in transporting our passengers to their destinations. This will go a long way in increasing the capacity of our public transportation systems. For this reason, while there is a congressional resolution, which will be the basis for allowing motorcycle taxis to operate, we will fully support it, ”he said.
Tugade added that he also ordered the transport regulator to speed up approvals for shuttle services.
