Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 27) – The Department of Tourism reminded its officials on Tuesday that they must remain professionals after one of its regional directors was caught in a viral video calling former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. the “vice president.”
“DOT reminds all of its officers and employees that they must perform and fulfill their duties with the highest degree of excellence and professionalism,” the department said in a statement.
Region I Tourism Director Jeff Ortega drew criticism online after posting a video of himself introducing Marcos as the titular vice president at a regional tourism event.
However, DOT media director Ina Zara-Loyola clarified that the agency’s reminder was not specific to the Ortega case.
“We continue to be guided by the Civil Service Commission, especially in expressing opinions on current political issues or issues,” the department said. The CSC prohibits government officials from participating in partisan political activity, but does not prohibit expressing opinions on political matters.
After losing to former Camarines Sur president Leni Robredo as vice president in the 2016 elections, Marcos filed an electoral protest questioning the results.
In October 2019, after a recount, Robredo’s advantage grew by around 15,000 votes or a total of 278,566 votes from the 5,415 districts grouped in the pilot provinces of Camarines Sur, Iloilo and Negros Oriental, which were chosen by the camp. de Marcos for the count. process.
The electoral protest has not yet been resolved.
