DOH Tracker: 27 Metro Manila COVID-19 Hospitals at ‘Danger’ Level as of Oct 6

[ad_1]

MANILA, Philippines – About 27 of the 126 Metro Manila hospitals that care for COVID-19 patients were classified as low “danger” on October 6 due to reduced bed capacity, the Department of Health (DOH).

This while the total bed capacity for all of Metro Manila remains at the “warning” level with 52.6 percent or 3,369 of the 6,408 COVID-19 beds currently occupied.

The DOH explained that the “danger” level means that beds for COVID-19 patients in hospitals are more than 70 percent occupied. These hospitals, he added, are vulnerable to reaching full capacity in the event of an increase in COVID-19 cases in their areas.

On the other hand, a “warning” level means that hospitals have a utilization rate of 30% to 70%, while hospitals labeled “safe” are those with less than 30% bed occupancy.

Of the 27 hospitals declared under the “danger” level, eight were recorded as having reached 100 percent bed occupancy. They were Allied Care Experts (Ace) Medical Center Valenzuela, Mary Chiles General Hospital Inc., National Center for Mental Health, Rosario Maclang Bautista Hospital, SDS Medical Center, Taguig Pateros District Hospital, University of Santo Tomas Hospital and Victoriano Luna Medical Center .

DOH Tracker: 27 Metro Manila COVID-19 Hospitals at 'Danger' Level as of Oct 6

This table taken from ncovtracker.doh.gov.ph shows the COVID-19 bed capacity of Metro Manila hospitals as of October 6, 2020.

INQUIRER.net used the most available data from DOH, dated October 6, 2020, published on its COVID-19 tracker as the basis for this analysis.

It should be noted that the most recent data exclude information from 10 medical centers, namely Alabang Muntinlupa Medical Clinic, Cabarles Maternity Medical and Infant Clinic, Caloocan City North Medical Center, Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo Hospital, Jesús Inmaculada Concepción Hospital, Taguig Doctors Hospital, University of the Philippines Health Service, Valenzuela City Emergency Hospital, Vian Family II Hospital, and Villarosa Hospital, Inc.

It was unclear if these hospitals were removed from the DOH list of 136 COVID-19 hospitals in Metro Manila (as of Sept. 30) or they simply don’t have any information available at this time. However, INQUIRER.net has requested clarification on the matter from DOH, which has not yet responded to this post.

The INQUIRER.net analysis attempts to provide a picture of how prepared the COVID-19 hospitals in Metro Manila would be in the event of a sudden increase in new coronavirus cases. But only Metro Manila hospitals that have available data on allocated beds for COVID-19 patients were included in this story.
