MANILA, Philippines – The number of new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the country soared to 291,789 on Tuesday after the Department of Health (DOH) recorded 1,635 new infections.
DOH, however, said that of the total count nationwide, 56,097 are active cases as of Sept. 22.
Metro Manila still has the highest number of new cases with 583, followed by Cavite with 102, Iloilo with 97, Rizal with 67 and Cebu with 57.
Additionally, the DOH reported the recovery of 450 more patients, bringing the total recovery to 230,643, as well as the disappearance of another 50 that increased the death toll to 5,049.
Likewise, the health department said it adjusted its COVID-19 statistics again with the elimination of 34 duplicates that included 21 recovered cases; and correction of the 17 recoveries previously reported as 16 active cases and one death.
