IN THE MIDST of the threat of typhoon “Rolly”, the Department of Health (DOH) ordered on Saturday, October 31, the immediate transfer of patients with coronavirus disease (Covid-19) who are currently isolated in makeshift tents and other facilities that could be toppled by the tropical cyclone.

In a televised press conference, the Undersecretary of Health, María Rosario Vergeire, said that they also ordered the transfer of medical equipment used in unstable quarantine facilities due to the threat of the typhoon.

“At our facilities, there will be a massive transfer of quarantined people in tents to safer places,” Vergeire said.

“Our equipment in facilities that are not so secured, we are withdrawing them and we are sending them to hospitals,” he added.

It should be noted that, in addition to hospitals, several suspected and confirmed Covid-19 cases have been housed in local treatment and temporary monitoring (TTMF) facilities.

DOH also urged local government units (LGUs) to ensure evacuation centers are capable of ensuring that they meet minimum health standards.

In addition to strictly enforcing minimum health standards, he also reminded local officials to deploy security officers to evacuation centers.

“Between us, as individuals, we must know our responsibilities to comply with minimum health standards so that the number of cases in our area does not increase,” said the health official.

“The security officer, meanwhile, will regularly monitor all those people within the evacuation site so that we can see who has symptoms, who needs to be transferred to other facilities,” Vergeire added.

According to the Philippine Astronomical, Geophysical and Atmospheric Services Administration, Typhoon Rolly is likely to make landfall on Sunday night (November 1) or early Monday morning (November 2).

At 10 a.m. on Saturday, Rolly’s Eye was located 480 kilometers east northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, with maximum sustained winds of 215 kilometers per hour (km / h) near the center and gusts of up to 265 km / h. h. It was moving west southwest at 20 km / h. (HDT / SunStar Philippines)
