After eight months of being Covid-free, the province of Batanes reported its first case Tuesday, a locally stranded individual who recently returned home to the province.

“The case of Covid-19 in Batanes has not yet been officially reported to the DOH (as of the September 29, 2020 database), but we have coordinated with the corresponding Center for Health Development (CHD) for relevant information. With Batanes registering a confirmed case, this means that all provinces have / had cases of Covid-19, ”said the Department of Health.

All provinces have reported at least one new case in the past 28 days, the DOH noted.

“Defining a disease-free area depends on established metrics, which are not yet well defined for Covid,” added DOH.

However, the DOH emphasized that one indicator they are monitoring is the “absence of a new confirmed case in the last 28 days.”

“We also monitor whether all previously reported confirmed cases have recovered, other Covid-19 cases discharged and reintegrated, and close contacts completed the quarantine.”
