MANILA, Philippines – The total number of healthcare workers infected with 2019 coronavirus disease or COVID-19 increased to 2,245 as of May 14, the Department of Health (DOH) reported Friday.
In an online briefing, DOH Deputy Secretary Maria Rosario Vergeire also said that from the latest count, 1,431 affected health workers are labeled “active,” while 35 have already died. However, it observed 42 new recoveries, which increased the number of recovered health workers to 779.
According to Vergeire, the number of new COVID-19 cases among healthcare workers is continually declining.
DOH also listed the top five medical professions with confirmed cases of COVID-19:
Nurse – 812
Medical – 660
Nursing Assistant – 137
Medical Technologist – 81
Radiological Technologist – 42
Meanwhile, the Health Department said 260 non-medical personnel were also affected by the severe respiratory illness caused by the new coronavirus, or SARS-CoV-2.
