Tanjiro Kamado is the main protagonist of the hit anime series, Murderer of demons. But Tanjiro has become quite unique for a main shonen character. Unlike Midoriya in My hero academia or Naruto, or Luffy from One piece Aspiring to be the best they can be in their field (hero, ninja, and pirate, respectively), Tanjiro’s main goal in doing everything he does is to save his sister, Nezuco.

But Murderer of demons He briefly introduced Tanjiro’s main love interest, and she doesn’t really come back until the end of the season, when she’s fighting him. Her love interest that develops as the story progresses is Kanao Tsuyuri and their romance is quite adorable.

At the beginning of the series, Tanjiro is shown to have several siblings whom he helps care for their mother, as he is the older brother of all of them. All of his brothers love and admire him, and he tries to help them as much and as often as he can.
Tanjiro has a total of five siblings, which means there are six children in total. Himself, Nezuko, Takeo, Hanako, Shigeru, and Rokuta. Of course, all of his siblings, besides Nezuko, were killed by Muzan and then make little appearances in dream sequences.
7 Who are your parents? Tanjuro and Kie, with the ex having ties to the world of demon slaughter
Tanjiro’s parents are Tanjuro and Kie. Fans see his mother Kie a lot in those early episodes when they also meet the rest of Tanjiro’s siblings. Kie became a single mother after her husband, Tanjuro, passed away. Tanjuro appeared to be a wise man but very sick and frail in his later years and succumbed to an illness shortly before the family massacre, which is why Tanjiro helps his mother take care of his brothers.
Tanjuro definitely had some sort of association with the world of demon slaughter, but he never showed himself as such and continued to be an inspiration to his two living sons.
6 How long did you train? Two years, under Sakonji Urokodaki
Tanjiro is not like most shonen characters who magically acquired a lot of power. While training bows are very important in shonen anime, Tanjiro needed one from the beginning as he didn’t even know how to properly wield a sword.
Tanjiro trained for two long years, mastering his water breathing technique, under Sakonji Urokodaki. During that same time, Urokodaki had Nezuko under a spell to control his demonic abilities. Tanjiro continues to train hard throughout the series to master the new skills he learns along the way.
5 What is your connection to Yoriichi and Kokushibo Tsugikuni? He doesn’t have one, and just taunts him like a misdirected plot
In the first season of the anime, fans can see hints that Tanjiro may have a deeper connection to two figures from his past who may also be currently involved with Muzan and the twelve moon demons. We see that these two twin brothers share Tanjiro’s Hanafuda earrings, the scars and they seem to look a lot like him, but the connection between all of them is still unclear.
This is a spoiler, but the truth is that Tanjiro doesn’t really have any connection to them. Their shared appearances are meant to act as a red herring, as Tanjiro’s ancestor was only a close friend of Yoriichi, whom he continues to see in his dreams (which are actually memories passed down from Sumiyoshi).
4 How many breathing styles do you know? Two: water breathing and sun breathing
It wouldn’t be a shonen anime without the main character syndrome. So, of course, Tanjiro ends up learning more than one style of breathing, a fairly rare trait.
Tanjiro is training in the water breath at the beginning of the series, but eventually discovers that he also has the ability to learn to harness the Sun’s Breath and the Hinokami Kagura, both of which were learned and passed down from his ancestors. The latter is a fighting style known as Dance of the Fire God.
3 Why do you have more than one breath? He learned one by himself, and the other was passed down through his family.
As mentioned, the Kamado line actually learned the Breath of the Sun and passed it on to every generation. Sumiyoshi Kamado is Tanjiro and Nezuko’s grandfather. He was saved by Yoriichi Tsugikuni, a close friend who developed Sun Breath on his own.
Yoriichi taught the Breath of the Sun and the Dance of the Fire God to Sumiyoshi, which he then passed on to his son, Tanjuro, along with Yoriichi’s earrings. Tanjiro ends up learning about his family’s connection to the Breath of the Sun and ends up learning it himself.
2 Who are your closest friends? Zenitsu Agatsuma and Inosuke Hashibira
Tanjiro quickly befriends two quirky boys who compete in the Demon Corps entrance exam alongside him, Zenitsu Agatsuma and Inosuke Hashibira. Zenitsu was trained in Thunder Breathing and knows only one style (in anime, at least). But that move always packs a punch. The Thunder Boy also begins the series by being terribly nervous and fearful of everything he encounters, leaving him plenty of room to grow.
Inosuke is a master of Beast Breath and channels the boar whenever he is in combat. Inosuke is loud and obnoxious, always eager for a fight, but he has a distracting face and this is why he always wears his boar helmet.
1 Do you have any natural talents? Has a superhuman sense of smell
Something that put Tanjiro on the right path before he even trained in sword fighting, and what impressed Giyu enough to help Tanjiro and Nezuko, was the young man’s sense of smell. Tanjiro was able to read people’s movements, actions, and even species based on how they smelled to him. He uses this to catch Giyu off guard in their first meeting with each other and he still uses it in his own fight after all his training.
