DND Mocks Communist Rebels Plan To Deploy Urban Strike Squads

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Defense (DND) on Sunday mocked Communist rebels’ threat to redeploy liquidation squads, and Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said the announcement only affirmed the government’s position that the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and its armed wing, the New People’s Army (NPA) are truly terrorist organizations.

“We challenge Mr. [Jose Maria] Sison to bring his terrorist threats, ”Lorenzana said, referring to the 81-year-old CCP founder who has enjoyed political asylum in the Netherlands since 1988.
