Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 28) – SM Markets is recalling the SM Bonus brown sugar and refined sugar from its stores until your supplier gets approval from the Food and Drug Administration to sell.
“We are recalling the SM Bonus Sugar products mentioned in FDA Circular Notice No. 2020-1927 until our supplier can comply with FDA registration requirements,” SM Markets said in a statement posted on Facebook Wednesday.
On Tuesday, the FDA warned the public against purchasing five products, including the SM Bonus sugar items, as they were found to be unregistered with the food and drug regulator.
In the same notice, the agency also warned people not to buy or consume the following unlisted foods:
1. MELVAN Ginger Brew with turmeric and lemongrass, 250 g
2. SWEET VALLEY Freeze Dried Cranberry Coated with Milk Chocolate
3. LORENZO FARM Bitter Chocolate, 55g
“The FDA verified through post-market surveillance that the above-mentioned food products are not registered and that the corresponding Product Registration Certificates (CPRs) have not been issued,” the FDA noted.
“Since these unregistered food products have not gone through the FDA evaluation process, the agency cannot guarantee their quality and safety,” the regulator added.
The agency has warned establishments not to sell these products until manufacturers obtain a CPR. He added that failure to comply with the directive can result in penalties.
