Former Blackwater trainer Aris Dimaunahan is the latest UST alumnus to apply for the Growling Tigers head coach position.

Dimaunahan confirmed to ESPN5.com on Monday that he passed a letter of intent addressed to the school’s Institute of Physical Education and Athletics (IPEA) on Sunday.

“I have just sent my letter of intent addressed to Rev. P. Ermito de Sagon, OP [Sunday] evening before listening to the 4 pm mass in the UST chapel, “he said in a message.

Dimaunahan, who studied at UST in the late 1990s, never got a chance to dress for the Tigers. While studying economics at the College of Commerce, he became part of the youth PR team that won gold at the 1996 SEABA tournament. He was also part of the country’s U18 delegation.

“I am more than willing to help the university in any way I can,” he said.

Dimaunahan played for 10 years in the PBA for Brgy. Geneva, Air 21, Coca-Cola, Barako Bull and Alaska, before moving on to the ABL and playing in San Miguel.

The 42-year-old joins a growing list of applicants seeking to be Aldin Ayo’s successor. Among those who have already applied are UST graduates Siot Tanquingcen, Estong Ballesteros, Chris Cantonjos, Gilbert Lao, Potit de Vera and Ed Cordero. Rain or Shine assistant Chris Gavina and former Alaska importer Sean Chambers have also applied for the position.
