The highway cleaning operation will resume on November 16, 2020 under the new issue from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
The Secretary of the Interior, Eduardo Año, issued the 2020-145 Memorandum in which he instructs local government units (LGU) to complete said operation before or until January 15, 2021.
“Then our LGUs will have two months to continue road cleaning programs in their areas,” said Home Secretary Jonathan Malaya in an interview with PTV on Wednesday.
These operations were temporarily suspended last March after the government began implementing community quarantines to contain the spread of the new coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
As some areas remain under community quarantine, Malaya said the completion rate for some LGUs has eased.
Highway cleaning operations will remain suspended in areas under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) or Modified ECQ.
In areas under General Community Quarantine (GCQ), the rate of completion of road cleaning may be partial.
“If an LGU is under Modified Community General Quarantine or a new normal, which means that it no longer has a community classification, they are expected to fully implement the president’s road cleaning directive,” Malaya said.
