A psychologist and two nurses who helped care for soccer legend Diego Maradona before his death were added to a growing investigation of manslaughter, a judicial source told local media on Monday (Manila time Tuesday).

Maradona died of a heart attack on the outskirts of Buenos Aires on November 25, weeks after undergoing brain surgery for a blood clot.

His psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov and cardiac surgeon Leopoldo Luque are already under investigation, as they were treating Maradona before his death.

The three people recently investigated must appear before the prosecution this week, the judicial source told local media.

Investigators are trying to determine if any of the five people who had Maradona in their care were negligent in any way.

Maradona suffered from liver, kidney and cardiovascular disorders, but there were no signs of alcohol or narcotic use, according to his autopsy.

Luque, the surgeon, responded in November to the start of an involuntary manslaughter investigation saying he did “everything he could, even the impossible” for an “unmanageable” patient.

An initial autopsy carried out on the day of Maradona’s death found that he had suffered from fluid in the lungs with acute heart failure caused by a disease of the heart muscles that makes it difficult to pump blood.
