The comment has reached more than 200 likes on the image sharing platform as of this writing.
“Haha! Actually surprise the Filipina,” wrote another user online with a fire emoji.
“IT’S A PHILIPPINE! 🇵🇭 ”exclaimed another Instagram user.
Gray also reportedly shared an Instagram story that had a text online that read, “Filipina.”
Her reiteration of her Filipino roots came after fans noticed that a Miss Universe Colombia 2020 pageant presenter introduced her in Spanish as an “Australian by birth” who “represented the Philippines” at the 67th Miss Universe pageant.

The broadcast also misspelled her name and instead broadcast “Catriona Garay”.

In 2015, the then Miss Universe Philippines Pia Wurtzbach was declared the winner of the beauty pageant after the host Steve Harvey wrongly proclaimed Miss Universe Colombia Ariadna gutierrez as the Miss Universe champion at the time.
On Thursday afternoon, it was reported that the president and national director of Miss Universe Colombia issued an apology to Gray and said it was due “to some language barrier.”
“The translated language that was submitted for the presentation is, ‘Born in Australia, from the Philippines, which is Miss Universe 2018’. Honestly, it is part of the cultural differences since here in Colombia, we consider the value of unity and transcultural importance ”. Natalie Ackerman it said in a statement.
He assured Gray and the Filipinos that “there was no malicious intent” for the mistakes they had made and hoped that the beauty queen “will not take this issue against us and forgive us and our management.”
Gray was born in Australia to a Scottish-born Australian father and Albay’s Filipino mother.
The beauty queen moved to the Philippines in 2011 to pursue a modeling career.
When she won as Miss Universe in 2018, an Australian tabloid referred to her as “our crowning glory.” It also featured a crossed-out version of the word “Philippines” from Gray’s starting title before winning, Miss Universe Philippines.

In 2018, Gray appeared in an interview with a talk show host. Boy Abunda and said that she identifies as Filipino by blood and “by heart.”
“Although I was born in Australia, that is not my choice. It was more of a decision for my parents, ”he shared earlier.
“I chose to come here,” Gray added.
