DFA: 3 More Filipinos Abroad Contract COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported three new cases of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) among Filipinos abroad on Tuesday.

According to the DFA, the latest recorded infections increased the total number of COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad to 11,695.

Of this number, DFA said 3,270 are in treatment, 7,578 have recovered or been discharged and 847 have died.

According to the different regions, 7,544 Filipinos infected with COVID-19 are in the Middle East and Africa; 1,968 are in the Asia Pacific region; 1,414 are in Europe; and 769 are in the Americas.

“To date, the Middle East and Africa continues to be the region with the highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases, recoveries, in treatment and deaths among our citizens,” said DFA.

“The Americas has the lowest number of deaths in all categories compared to other geographic regions, except for the total number of deaths, where Asia and the Pacific ranks lowest with a total of only 9,” he added.

In the Philippines, COVID-19 cases exceeded 442,000 as of Tuesday, December 8.

The Department of Health (DOH) said that the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country is now 442,785, of which 25,325 remain active.

The DOH added that 139 new recoveries brought the sum of recovered patients to 408,790, while the death of 98 more brought the death toll to 8,670.
