The Department of Education (DepEd) is in trouble again after a netizen pointed out an “incorrect” math equation that was part of a pilot test of its educational episodes.

Jemima Manansala pointed out the error, which she posted on her Facebook account. To date, the FB post has garnered 17,000 reactions and 22,000 shares.

I was curious, I peeked (I was curious, so I watched the) DepEd TV. To get the value of x jackdaw, divide both sides by 0? ” she said.

The equation in question was:

2x = 0

2x / 0 = 0/0

x = 0

Netizens were quick to point out that it can’t be divided by zero.

Mathforum.org explained that “division by zero is an operation for which it cannot find an answer, so it is not allowed.”

“You can try to come up with a good set of rules, but it always leads to nonsense, so to avoid all the problems, we just say there is no point in dividing by zero.”

The correct solution to the equation would be to divide both sides of the equation by 2, to get x = 0.

2x = 0

2x / 2 = 0/2

x = 0

DepEd was also criticized after airing English exercises with “glaring” grammatical errors during his television test.

DepEd TV is currently broadcasting on IBC-13 and other partner networks across the country.

The Department of Education has been employing the use of television, radio, modules and online platforms as part of its distance blended learning.

DepEd has yet to release a statement as of press time.
