Only schools with large spaces and extensive facilities will be considered vaccination centers, according to the Department of Education (DepEd).
In an online interview with PTV on Tuesday, the Secretary of Education Leonor Briones revealed that they are already in talks with the Department of Health (DOH) about the schools that could be used for the government’s inoculation campaign for the new coronavirus disease. (Covid-19).
He pointed out that public schools were considered for the activity because they have clinics and classrooms, where the administration of the vaccine can be carried out.
“This has to be carefully planned because we have schools, which have large clinics and some small ones. So that [selection] It will depend on the school, ”Briones said.
Briones clarified that she is not interested in allowing teachers to administer the vaccine, as they can be accused of medical negligence.
Selection process
The main executor of the government’s national policy on Covid-19, Carlito G. Galvez, said it will be up to local government units (LGU), in coordination with local health officials, to choose their vaccination centers.
However, he said that such vaccination centers, which should be used for vaccination, should have a spacious place and a separate room to ensure that social distancing and minimum health standards are respected.
The vaccine czar said they are prioritizing hospitals and health centers to become vaccination centers, but due to the large number of people who will be vaccinated, he said they are also considering auditoriums and schools.
“We need to vaccinate as much as possible at least between 100,000 and 200,000 per day to achieve our goal of 70 million (people). If you calculate it, we will need to vaccinate at least 250,000 per day. For that, we need more vaccination centers, ”said Gálvez during a forum in Pasig City on Tuesday.
He said they will use the conduct of the elections as a model for the conduct of the government’s Covid-19 vaccination campaign, which is expected to begin during the first half of the year.
