To say that ONE: Inside The Matrix was a wild night would be a terrible understatement.
Two world titles changed hands at the first truly global ONE Championship show in nine months on Friday, October 30 at the indoor stadium in Singapore, culminating an action-packed night at “The Lion City.”
Reinier “The Dutch Gentleman” De Ridder will return to the Netherlands as the newly crowned ONE World Middleweight Champion after submitting middleweight king Aung La “The Burmese Python” N Sang in the first round.
De Ridder plunged into a bare-back choke finish, which Aung La N Sang tried vehemently to defend to no avail, at the 3:26 mark of the round.
At the start of the fight, De Ridder reached for the bare butt choke and “The Burmese Python” tried to break free, but “The Dutch Knight” jumped onto his back, wrapped his legs around Aung La N Sang’s body, and squeezed the grip to get the finish.
Thanh Le finished off Aung La N Sang’s teammate Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen to capture the ONE world featherweight title against the Vietnamese-Australian.
He timed a short right hook as Nguyen advanced, effectively shaking the former world champion before landing accurate punches for the knockout at the 2:29 mark of the third round.
Christian “The Warrior” Lee and “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan did not suffer the same fate as the other two defending champions; they held their respective world titles in an exciting way.
Lee was rocked early against Iuri Lapicus and caught in a terrifying Achilles block, but the 22-year-old escaped the submission attempt, grabbed the Moldovan’s back and threw a barrage of punches for the TKO victory in 2:19 mark. of the first round.
Xiong, on the other hand, retained her ONE Women’s World Strawweight Champion against Tiffany “No Chill” Teo in a thrilling five-round match.
