DDS Confessions: India Facebook Page Unfairly Attacked By Duterte Online ‘Cult’

MANILA, Philippines – An Indian Facebook page became the latest victim of President Rodrigo Duterte’s “legion” of online followers.

DDS Confessions, a Facebook page meant to be a platform for alumni of Daisy Dales Senior High School in India’s capital city of New Delhi, said it received spam for having the famous acronym DDS.

The term “DDS” has been a popular Internet slang in the Philippines since 2016 and means “Diehard Duterte supporters”. It is also a nod to the famous Davao Death Squad, which was related to Duterte’s alleged human rights abuses when he was still mayor of the city of Davao.

In a post, DDS Confessions called the DDS, supporters of Duterte, as members of the cult and clarified that they are not a political page.

“For the love of whatever you worship, please stop,” the page wrote.

The post had gone viral with more than 6,600 shares and more than 15,000 reactions as of 1 p.m. Thursday. It also has more than 1,400 comments, some of which come from Filipino netizens who stepped in and expressed “disappointment” at the actions of the president’s supporters.

“This is terrifying AF. While I will not apologize for the actions of my stupid compatriots, I am deeply and shamefully disappointed. I can’t believe your free FB [Facebook] the data got them into this, ”wrote a Lloyd Christian Estudillo in the comments section.

“This is very embarrassing. On behalf of my compatriots, we really apologize. But that specific group of people does not represent the whole country,” wrote another netizen, Micah Mariano.

According to the manager of the DDS confession page, the attention they received from Duterte supporters prompted him to do an “investigation” into the tough-talking president.

“The phrase” I am horrified to the core of the soul “does not justify what I am feeling,” the page said in its publication.

In another publication, the page’s manager found that he is now receiving death threats from Duterte’s “lunatic supporters” for thinking he was a “yellow”, the political color of the opposition Liberal Party.

“Friends, if an anonymous Indian seated thousands of kilometers away can influence people to vote against their president, then they have bigger problems,” wrote the controller.

“That’s all the people, please stop this madness and go away. I’m done.”
