Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 28) – Lupon, Davao Oriental switched to a stricter general community quarantine on Friday due to the increase in COVID-19 cases in the municipality in recent weeks, the local government said. The GCQ statement will be until February 10.
“The municipality of Lupon has registered the highest number of average daily attack rate and growth rate among other LGUs in the province with a total number of 67 positive cases and with more than seven barangays affected as of January 25, which led Working group to escalate the quarantine classification of the municipality, “said a Facebook post from the local government of Davao Oriental, citing its provincial COVID-19 working group.
During the GCQ period, mass gatherings are prohibited and some non-essential businesses, including tourist establishments and gyms, are closed, authorities said.
The LGU also advised residents to stay home unless they need to go to work or access essential goods and services, adding that there will be a curfew from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting Friday.
As of Thursday, the number of people who tested positive for coronavirus infection in Lupon was 127, of which 70 were active cases. Meanwhile, recoveries are at 54. while deaths are at three.
