MALACAÑANG said that 600,000 doses of the Sinovac vaccine will arrive in the country on February 23, 2021.

Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said the Chinese government donated 100,000 doses to the Department of National Defense (DND).

The Sinovac vaccine is still awaiting approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for emergency use in the Philippines.

However, Roque said the FDA has issued a compassionate use license for 10,000 doses of Sinopharm, which were administered to members of the Presidential Safety Group (PSG).

He said the families of PSG staff could also benefit from vaccines.

Some PSG staff members previously confirmed that they received the candidate vaccine developed by Sinopharm, a state-owned Chinese pharmaceutical company.

For his part, the deputy director of implementation of the National Task Force against Covid-19, Vince Dizon, said that the delivery of the 117,000 doses of the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine will be delayed a bit. But they are still expected to arrive within a month.

Meanwhile, Mayor Edgardo Labella said that 10 clustered areas will serve as venues for the next city-wide vaccines against the coronavirus.

disease.

Labella said that while they have yet to purchase their own vaccines, the P400 million allocation the City has prepared to purchase the vaccines is ready to go.

Labella said that in addition to buying its own shares, the City Council will also depend on the supply from the National Government.

Cebu City has been identified as one of the cities outside of Metro Manila that Malacañang will give priority to in vaccine distribution.

Once the national government begins implementing the vaccines, the City will use its own funds to purchase the difference, Labella said.

Labella said the City’s Vaccine Board has yet to decide which brand of vaccine to buy.

Labella previously said she had no problem buying vaccines developed by Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca as long as they are cleared by the FDA. / Third Anne Peralta-Malonzo / SunStar Philippines, (PAC / JKV)
