In the National Capital Region (Metro Manila) alone, the number of cases dropped by about 38 percent, the Health Department reported.

The figures were encouraging, considering that about a month ago, an average of 2,517 new Covid cases were reported daily.

The average for the past two weeks has dropped to 1,887 per day.

In Metro Manila, the daily average dropped from 842 in the last month to 522 in the last two weeks.

The Undersecretary of Health, María Rosario Vergeire, said that the Metro Manila average was lower than that of August, which had between 2,000 and 2,500 cases per day.

“Now, we see the drop in cases…. Hopefully we get to the point where it will go down, we won’t get more cases (Now we are seeing a decrease in the number of cases, hopefully we get to that point where it will drop even more and we win. Don’t add more cases), ”Vergeire told reporters on Monday.

He stressed that while the daily case count was important, other factors should also be considered such as the capacity of the health system where non-Covid cases could be treated and a growing rate of growth before local governments may finally switch to the more lenient modified general community quarantine. (MGCQ).

Local governments should also have established robust testing, tracing, isolation and treatment protocols to be considered MGCQ ready, Vergeire said.

The Health department aimed for all local governments in the country to be able to switch to MGCQ by the end of the first quarter of 2021, he added.

The DoH recorded 2,298 new Covid-19 cases on Monday, bringing the total active cases to 29,301.

He said 92.1 percent of active cases were mild and asymptomatic, 5 percent were in critical condition and 2.8 percent experienced severe symptoms.

Benguet had the highest number of recorded cases with 188, followed by Davao City, Rizal, Quezon City and Bulacan.

The DoH also said that 90.5 percent or 348,830 patients had recovered, including the 87 reported Monday. The death toll rose to 7,269, with the addition of 32 deaths on Monday.
