Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 30) Another 2,426 people in the country have tested positive for COVID-19, raising the infected count to 311,694, the Health Department announced Wednesday.
The latest case report indicated that 887, or 36 percent, of the new patients are from Metro Manila, while Cavite posted the second-highest daily increase at 201.
Rizal was next with 147 most infected residents, followed by Negros Occidental with 115 and Batangas with 99.
Meanwhile, COVID-19 survivors in the country rose to 252,488 as the department confirmed that 585 more patients have recovered. However, fifty-eight more died, bringing the death toll to 5,504.
The DOH said that of the 58 deaths, 42 died in September, while the other 16 died in July and August.
Taking into account recoveries and deaths, the number of active cases or currently sick patients in the Philippines is now 52,702, representing about 17 percent of the total case count.
According to DOH, 35 duplicate cases were removed from the overall count as part of its ongoing data cleansing process. He added that 14 cases previously reported as recoveries turned out to be deaths after final validation.
He also noted that all COVID-19 testing labs across the country were able to submit their data on time.
Meanwhile, the Department of Foreign Affairs counted 27 Filipinos abroad most infected with the coronavirus. There are now 10,534 cases detected among Filipinos abroad, including 6,727 recoveries and 792 deaths.
The global COVID-19 count has reached 33.6 million according to data from the United States-based Johns Hopkins University. Of this number, more than a million patients have died, while 23.4 million have recovered.
