COVID-19 cases in PH soar to 217,396 with more than 22,000 new recoveries

MANILA, Philippines – The number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the Philippines surpassed 217,000 after the Department of Health (DOH) recorded 4,284 new cases.

As of August 30, DOH said there are now 217,396 cases of COVID-19 in the country, of which 56,473 are considered active cases.

Meanwhile, DOH has registered 22,319 new recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 157,403.

The death toll is now 3,520 after 102 more patients died from the disease.

The coronavirus disease outbreak first emerged in the city of Wuhan, in China’s Hubei province, in late December last year.

COVID-19 can cause mild to moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough, in most people. However, older adults and people with underlying health problems can experience more serious illnesses, such as pneumonia and death.
