Mutations don't make coronavirus spread faster, study finds

MANILA, Philippines – The Health Department recorded 1,765 new coronavirus infections on Friday, bringing the country’s number of cases to 475,820.

Of the total cases, 26,677 were considered active cases, according to DOH’s daily case bulletin.

Most or 81.9% of active cases present mild symptoms, 9.8% are asymptomatic, 2.7% present severe symptoms, and 5.1% are in critical condition.

DOH also recorded 106 new recoveries and four deaths, bringing the total to 439,895 and 9,248, respectively.

Davao City had the highest number of new infections with 100 cases, followed by Rizal (99), Cavite (71), Quezon City (70) and Manila City (69).

DOH said it removed nine duplicates from the total case count, seven of which are recovered cases.

Eight labs were unable to submit their data on Dec. 31, the health department added.
