On Tuesday, the Supreme Court dismissed the petition seeking disclosure of Associate Judge Mario Victor Leonen’s Declarations of Assets, Liabilities and Relationship (SALN).

Court spokesman Brian Keith Hosaka said the court denied requests from the Attorney General’s Office and attorney Lorenzo Gadon for copies of Leonen’s SALN “for the purpose of preparing a quo warranto petition.”

Leonen did not participate in the deliberations.

The Manila Times learned that the court dismissed the petitions because the requested SALNs were not in the custody of the court, but of the University of the Philippines (UP).

Leonen was a professor at the UP Law School prior to his appointment to the superior court.

Former Ambassador Rigoberto Tiglao, a columnist for The Manila Times, claimed that Leonen did not submit his SALN for several years.

Gadon wanted to obtain copies of the documents so that he could file a request for quo warranto.

The former president of the Supreme Court Maria Lourdes Sereno was also accused of not presenting her SALN. She was removed from office by the high court in 2018.
