Could this be the 2022 Honda Civic?

Sales may go down for all automakers, but Honda has a lot to look forward to in the new decade. The Japanese company redesigned the city, invested more in electric power and updated current models as quickly as possible. Now, there is something else that makes us all excited about Honda.

That would be the 11th-generation Civic, arriving in mid-2021 as a 2022 model.

It is not just speculation. American Honda Motor Co., Inc. confirmed this a few months ago, saying that everything is ready for its debut in spring 2021. There have even been spy photos of the new Civic, which was recently seen testing in Thailand. Now, alleged patent photos of the 11th-generation Civic are floating around the internet.

If these photos are legit, these images could be our first look at the future Civic. The patent photos that have been leaked are of the hatchback model. By the looks of it, Honda played it safe with the next-gen Civic. After the revolutionary design of 2015, another dramatic redesign might put off some potential customers. It also appears that the car follows some cues from its older brother, the Accord.

You can see some traces of the Accord at the front. There are the elongated headlights and a thin grille connecting them. Plus, the C-shaped corner air intakes take a bit of inspiration from the midsize sedan.

It also looks like the new Civic will move up a notch, as the patent drawing gives the impression of a larger vehicle. The hood is noticeably longer and flatter than the current model, and it seems to corroborate spy photos from about a month ago.

At the rear, it’s an evolution of the current-gen C-shaped theme, at least for the hatchback. The taillights are thinner than the current model, but you can still see a bit of the 2015 version there. It also has a strip that connects the taillights to each other. Also, the rear glass is noticeably larger than before.

As for the sedan, it is no longer exactly the same as its five-door counterpart. If anything, the taillights remind us of recent Audi sedans, but that’s not a bad thing now, is it? Plus, the boot lid is higher than the current Civic, making it less like a coupe and more like a traditional sedan.

Of course, the only way we can confirm the patent photos is once Honda debuts the car soon. With less than six months to go until spring 2021, there will still be plenty of sleepless nights for Honda and Civic fans around the world.
