Broadway actor Nick Cordero had an amputation of his right leg after suffering complications from the coronavirus, his wife confirmed.

Since the end of March, the 41-year-old man has been hospitalized in the Angels, where he was initially diagnosed with pneumonia before testing positive for COVID-19.

Cordero had been living with his family in Los Angeles since he won his Rock of Ages role.

A Tony-nominated actor, Cordero had moved to California with his family to star in the musical Rock Of Ages.

While receiving intensive care treatment, a drop in blood pressure led him to receive life support and has remained unconscious ever since.

His wife, Amanda Kloots, has been posting regular health updates on social media about the condition of the star who has been on a ventilator at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

In an Instagram story on Saturday, she said: “He managed to get through the surgery, which is really great, because obviously his body is quite weak.”

“They are taking him back to the room to recover and rest, so I hope he relaxes and rests.”

Cordero underwent initial surgery to help with “blood flow problems reaching his foot.”

At the time, she said, “We don’t know what the damage will be. We don’t know if he will be able to walk again.

However, on Saturday he confirmed that they had received “difficult news” as the blood thinners that Cordero had received to combat clotting in his leg had caused internal bleeding in his intestines.

Then the decision was made to stop the blood thinners and amputate his leg.

In a previous post, Kloots had asked for a miracle and expressed his frustration at not being able to be around him.

She wrote, “I just wish I could see him. Take his hand. Touch his face. I think this would help him wake up!”

Fitness instructor, Kloots has led nightly dancing and singing sessions to help “#WakeUpNick”.

The couple has a 10-month-old baby together, Elvis.

A month ago, the Canadian actor posted a photo of his son and wife together on his birthday, writing: “These days I am counting my blessings … This is the first on the list.”

Cordero had been starring in Rock of Ages before the theaters of America closed due to coronavirus.

He also starred in the musicals Waitress and A Bronx, and appeared in the American crime drama Blue Bloods.

The actor’s friends have created a GoFundMe page to raise money to help with his medical bills.

It has quickly approached its goal of $ 250,000 (£ 200,000).
