The government now allows construction work by the public and private sectors in areas under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ), Malacañang announced Saturday.
In a virtual press conference broadcast on state PTV4, Palace spokesman Harry Roque Jr. said the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) had modified the general guidelines on quarantine implementation. community to allow those projects to resume.
Roque added that public and private construction projects and infrastructure projects are now allowed under ECQ.
He said that the allowed construction projects were considered “priority”, so they were given the green light.
The change covers construction projects for quarantine and isolation facilities for people under surveillance, suspected and confirmed patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19); facilities for construction personnel performing emergency work; flood control and other disaster risk reduction and rehabilitation programs; sewer projects; water service projects; and digital works.
The government now also allows “priority” manufacturing-related public and private infrastructure projects, such as food outsourcing, agriculture and business processes, Roque announced.
He added that construction workers accredited by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) could now return to their respective jobs in areas under ECQ.
Roque said that the entities that carried out these projects had to comply with the construction safety guidelines in the implementation of infrastructure projects during the coronavirus pandemic.
Metro Manila and other areas with high risk of Covid-19 spread remain under blockade until May 15.
The working group leading the efforts against the coronavirus will meet on Monday and present its recommendation to President Rodrigo Duterte on quarantine measures to be applied after May 15.
