Following comments from UFC President Dana White about Conor McGregor facing Diego Sanchez at the UFC 253 post-fight press conference, McGregor responded on Twitter.
‘Notorious’ had recently leaked his private conversation with White on his Instagram DMs, which included a conversation about the first who wanted to fight UFC veteran Sanchez after beating Donald Cerrone. Along with this, the chats showed pushing for a date in May.
When asked about the leaked conversations, Dana White didn’t seem too pleased with the idea. She also disagreed that McGregor wanted to fight an unranked Sanchez on the hill in a main event.
Following White’s comments about Sánchez, many media outlets criticized ‘The Notorious’ for picking an easy opponent who was past his prime. This prompted McGregor to reply with a tweet.
He said, “I’m still interested in a fight with you somewhere along the Diego Sanchez line. A true warrior and pioneer of this sport. It would be an honor for me! Some journalists and promoters and their lack of respect for what the fighters put into this game make me sick. Things must change! “

What do fans think about Conor McGregor vs Diego Sánchez?
Conor McGregor (22-4, 20 KOs) had his last fight against Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone in January 2020. He returned with almost a year off to beat Cerrone in the first round by TKO. Sánchez has lost two of his last three fights, with DQ’s only win against Michael Pereira.
Although McGregor wants this fight to happen, fans and the MMA community are not very excited about it. Sánchez fought on the UFC 253 undercard this Saturday night, where he lost by unanimous decision.
With McGregor seeking a fight with a fighter in his late 40s who is on the brink of retirement, it makes little sense to many. There are many top competitors in the lightweight division for him to fight, which would make the matchups that much more exciting.
A rematch with former interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier could be a great idea. Or a fight with another top lightweight Tony Ferguson seems like a great option. Not only will it make sense for McGregor from a competitive standpoint, but it will thrill fans and generate more box office revenue.
