Comelec reminds new registered voters to observe the protocols against COVID-19
Manila, Philippines – The Elections Commission (Comelec) reminded the public on Monday to strictly follow health and safety protocols against the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) during voter registration, which will resume on Tuesday, September 1.
In a notice, Comelec said application forms can be submitted Tuesday through Saturday, including holidays, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Elections Official’s Office (OEO).
Comelec spokesman James Jiménez said there will be no satellite voter registration.
He also encouraged the public to download the application form from www.comelec.gov.ph and fill it out manually before going to Comelec to register as a voter. They are also advised to bring their own pens.
However, he said that registrants only need to sign the form in front of the election official at Comelec’s office.
On the day of registration at the Comelec office, as a matter of procedure, registrants must observe the following:
- Wear a mask and face shield;
- Sanitize your hands and go through the foot bath;
- Complete the Health Declaration Form with your own pens;
- Sign the application form with your own pens;
- Disinfect your hands before and after using the signature pad and fingerprint scanner;
- Take off your mask and shield only to take pictures during biometric data capture; and
- Leave the COMELEC premises immediately after the transaction.
The electoral body also reiterated that a “no mask and face shield, no entry” policy will be implemented.
The number of registrants or transactions to be processed daily will also be limited and physical distancing will be observed.
Registrants must also undergo a body temperature control before entry and disinfect their hands and shoes.
“Daily disinfection of all OEOs will be carried out to ensure safety at all times,” said Jiménez.
Voter registration nationwide for the May 2022 elections began on January 20, 2020 and will last until September 30, 2021.
Comelec offices in Intramuros, Regions 4A and 4B closed due to disinfection until August 16
Manila, Philippines – The Elections Commission (Comelec) announced on Monday the temporary closure of its offices in several areas amid the increase in coronavirus cases.
In a notice, Comelec said that its main office in Intramuros, as well as the offices of the Regional Director of Elections of the National Capital Region and Regions IV-A and IV-B will be closed to the public “for extensive disinfection and decontamination.”
The temporary closure will take effect from Aug. 3-16, the electoral body said.
Along with the office closure, the issuance of local and foreign voter certificates at the main office will also be temporarily suspended, Comelec said.
However, the electoral body said its officials and employees will continue to perform their duties from home.

Comelec suspends voter registration until March 31 due to COVID-19 threat
Manila, Philippines – The Elections Commission (Comelec) suspended voter registration until March 31 amid the growing number of new coronavirus (COVID-19) infections in the country.
In a statement, Comelec spokesman James Jiménez announced that the suspension will begin on Tuesday, March 10.
“In response to the growing threat to public health posed by COVID-19, Comelec suspended voter registration until March 31S t March 2020, ”he said.
Jiménez said that the suspension takes effect throughout the country, and covers voter registration carried out in all Comelec offices in districts, cities and municipalities, as well as all satellite registration activities.
“The public is advised to take all necessary precautionary measures to limit their exposure to the possibility of COVID-19 infection,” he added.
The electoral body opened voter registration for the 2022 national elections last January. Initially, it was scheduled to run until September 30, 2021.
At press time, the Philippines has 33 confirmed coronavirus cases.
President Rodrigo Duterte previously declared a public health emergency amid rising cases of COVID-19 infections in the country.
DOH also raised Code Red Sublevel 1 after confirming the first case of local transmission of coronavirus in the country.
Voter registration in the areas affected by the Taal eruption will resume on February 3 – Comelec
Manila, Philippines – Voter registration in the Batangas and Cavite areas affected by the Taal Volcano eruption will resume on Monday, February 3, the Electoral Commission (Comelec) reported on Thursday.
In a statement, Comelec said that voter registration for the 2022 elections will resume in the following places in Batangas province due to the return to normal working conditions:

- Ballet
- Laurel
- Lemery
- St nicolas
- St. Teresita
- Language
- Talisay
- Basin
- City of Lipa
- Tanauan City
- Balayan
- Calaca
- Kalatagan
- However
- saint Louis
- Mabini
- Lian
- Malvar
In Cavite, the electoral body said that voter registration will also resume in Alfonso, Indang, Silang, Tagaytay City and Amadeo.
Meanwhile, voter registration in the Mataas na Kahoy municipality in Batangas will resume on February 10, according to Comelec.
The electoral body previously announced the suspension of registration in areas within and beyond the 14-kilometer danger zone of the Taal volcano during its eruption.
