ZAMBOANGA CITY –– Police forces here call for justice and a deeper investigation into the murder of Police Lieutenant Colonel Walter Annayo, who was relieved of his post while facing charges for the murder of four Army intelligence officers in Sulu on 29 of June.
Staff from various police stations and police organizations demand justice for the death of Annayo, who was shot and killed on November 21 on Ramos Highway, Barangay Macabiso, Sultan Mastura, Maguindanao.
“(We condemn) in the strongest words the gruesome murder of our classmate, PLCol. Walter Annayo. He was treacherously murdered by unidentified suspects, ”said a 2006 PNP side-entry Bagong Tanglaw class statement.
“We cry out for justice and ask for an investigation and immediate resolution of the case so that the guilty are responsible and justice is done,” says Police Lieutenant Colonel Harold Aglipay, class president of the organization.
Police Colonel Michael Bawayan, director of the Sulu Provincial Police, said Annayo’s death was a “great loss to the PNP force.”
“He was a good police officer, one of the police officers who accomplished a lot, especially in fighting crime and drugs,” Bawayan said.
“When Annayo was relieved last July, following the reported shooting incident in the city of Jolo that left military agents dead,” he was never charged with any criminal case, “Bawayan said.
“He was administratively charged with negligence of duty, and when he was killed in Maguindanao, he was studying,” Bawayan said.
But Bawayan refrained from mentioning anything related to the progress of the murder cases brought against nine police officers.
Annayo, 41, a native of the city of Baguio, was chief of the Jolo municipal police station when four Army agents, namely Major Marvin Indammog, Captain Irwin Managuelod, Sergeant Jaime Velasco and Corporal Abdal Asula, a few were shot and killed on June 29. Meters from the station.
On July 2, he was relieved of his position and, along with nine other police officers, was charged with four counts of murder.
Sulu Municipal Police Stations posted candles on their Facebook pages, while others hoisted the flag at half mast to honor Annayo even as they demanded justice for her death.
Mayor of Maimbung City, Hja. Shihla Tan-Hayudini sent her condolences to the Annayo family and the entire police force.
“(His death) is a great loss,” Hayudini said. “Annayo served Maimbung. He was a strict executor and a disciplined officer. We deeply appreciate your services and sacrifices. We hope that the circumstances of his death will be thoroughly investigated in the name of justice, “he added.
