TNT Tropang GIGA welcomed Chot Reyes as the team’s head coach on Saturday afternoon.
Reyes, who coached TNT from 2008 to 2021, replaces head coach Bong Ravena and consultant Mark Dickel at TNT.
“It’s like a homecoming for Chot. He is a coach who gave us four championships. We hope to have a successful relationship with Coach Chot ”. said TNT Governor Ricky Vargas.
“We would like to thank TNT Tropang GIGA active consultant Mark Dickel for all that he has done for the team. He took us to the PBA Finals twice in the two years he was on board. We wish him the best as he moves toward new endeavors. “
Vargas also shared that Reyes wanted Dickel to stay as an active consultant, but the latter decided to seek new opportunities and recover from his recent operation in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The duo of Dickel and Ravena led TNT to the 2020 PBA Philippines Cup Finals, but bowed to Geneva in five games.
An experienced professional coach in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), Reyes led many league teams to multiple championships. He led TNT to the Philippine Commissioner Cups and 2011 of 2009, 2011 and 2012.
The five-time PBA Coach of the Year also gave Gilas the “put” mentality when he led the national team on their historic return to the international scene in 2013.
“Basketball is in the DNA of the Filipinos, especially in PLDT and Smart. That is why we are looking forward to working with Coach Chot as he leads TNT Tropang GIGA in the upcoming PBA season. “ said smart president Al Panlilio.
Reyes shared that he was honored by the team management’s decision to bring him in as head coach of TNT Tropang GIGA.
“Throughout my career, I have always tried to live up to my passion and purpose. My passion has always been to coach and build teams, whether in sports or in business. And my purpose is to advance the advancement of Filipino coaches, so that we can, in turn, help develop the next generation of Filipino leaders. “ Reyes said.
“Coaching back at PBA provides me with an excellent platform to promote this promotion. I have spent the best years of my career as a ka-Troop and I look forward to this new challenge. “
Reyes’ staff includes Ravena, Sandy Arespacochaga, his son Josh, Yuri Escueta and Alton Lister.
