Deftones frontman Chino Moreno has spoken about the possibility of the band releasing their 2000 album “White Pony” to celebrate their 20th anniversary this year.
The band’s third studio LP came out on June 20, 2000 and featured the Grammy-winning song “Elite”.
Moreno was asked about the possibility of a relaunch of “White Pony” this year during a new interview with Zane Lowe of Beats 1.
“It’s actually fun because we talked about this when the album that we wanted to remix the” White Pony “album came out,” Moreno recalled. “Our initial idea was to get the teachers from the” White Pony “registry and put some money in a briefcase and the teachers in a briefcase. And we [were] We would go to DJ Shadow’s house and we were going to deliver it to him and say, “Man, remix this record.” And we wanted to call him “Black Stallion”.
Moreno said “they can try to do something similar to that” in terms of a real “White Pony” relaunch.
Who will be involved? I’m not quite sure yet. Because releasing an album and having it would be great, but obviously it’s what are we going to do? Change the album cover, a different case or whatever? It’s like it’s great [do] Really.”
Moreno added that Deftones doesn’t have any songs left over from the ‘White Pony’ sessions (“I mean we had a couple of B sides, but they’ve already been released”), so any relaunch would be “maybe trying to add something to it “
“Or do it in an orderly way and not just do a remix just to do a remix, obviously that would be nice. That’s the only thing we’re really thinking about doing that.
Deftones is currently in the final stages of completing his next album, but Moreno said he is now unsure if it will be released as planned this summer due to the coronavirus outbreak.
