Ahead of another visit by a US official, Taiwanese Foreign Minister Joseph Wu has called for a united stand against China’s “authoritarian aggression”. Wu also claimed that the US official’s visit is a warning to China to show that military aggression will not be tolerated.
He told France 24: “We are on the front line defending democracies from being taken over by communist China.
“We have been striving in recent years to strengthen our own defense capabilities and, at the same time, we also want the international community to understand that Taiwan as a democracy has been threatened by China, which is an authoritarian country that is trying to expand its influence. .
“We believe that like-minded countries or fellow democracies should pay more attention to this area and help each other so that China’s expansionist motivation can be deterred.
“I think this visit is a demonstration to the Chinese side that its military threat against other peace-loving countries would not have been tolerated.”
Although Taiwan stands as its own autonomous state, China has long maintained its desire to subject it to the domination of the mainland.
Located in the East China Sea, Beijing has increased its military exercises in the area with Taiwanese officials warning of a future invasion.
Before Health Secretary Alex Azar’s visit to Taiwan in August, China warned that his trip threatens peace and stability in the region.

“They are leading the island into a dead end.
“An increasing number of people are concerned that the Taiwan Strait will be the most likely powder keg in the China-US competition.
He also concluded that the island’s people will be plunged into misery if ties with the United States continue to strengthen.
This comes amid reports that the United States is seeking to go ahead with a series of military agreements with Taiwan.
According to Reuters, the deals could include the delivery of cruise missiles and drones to Taipei.
The report has been rejected, although the United States agreed to a missile upgrade package in July despite having no diplomatic ties to the state.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense claims this will help deepen its ability to defend itself against any future attacks.
