Dr. Li Meng-Yan has previously backed claims that Beijing tried to silence anyone who tried to raise the alarm when the virus first broke out in Wuhan last year. In December, Dr. Li was tasked with investigating a cluster of virus cases that we now know to be coronaviruses. He claims that he uncovered a cover-up operation and that the Chinese government knew about the spread of the virus before publicly acknowledging the outbreak.
He maintains that he had to flee to the United States for his own safety.
Now he lives in a secret place within the United States.
The virologist claims she was asked to study a group of unknown virus cases leaving Wuhan in December.
She reports that her supervisor asked her to investigate a new “SARS-like” virus that left Wuhan on December 31.
When she went to Wuhan, Dr. Li informed her supervisor that infections appeared to be increasing exponentially there.
The response he received was that he had to “keep quiet and be careful.”
His supervisor said, “We will get in trouble and we will disappear.”
The doctor then went on to explain how the virus did not come from the wet market in Wuhan, but was created by man at a virology institute in the city.

“Anyone, even if they have no knowledge of biology, will be able to read it and check it, identify it and verify it yourself.”
Raising your voice has come at a cost to Dr. Li and her family.
He spoke of how the Chinese authorities would erase “all my information, and they also told people to spread rumors about me.”
“That I’m a liar, I don’t know anything, I just killed a hamster in the lab.
“They will try to control my family and friends and then all of a sudden I don’t exist.”
